Rising Senior Spotlight - Stuart McCallum

Earlier this week, we profiled the Boston Warriors after visiting them as part of the Be Seen Tour.

Middlesex School forward Stuart McCallum was one of the most impressive prospects in the gym that night.

McCallum is an exceptional student, with qualifications for the most academically prestigious colleges and universities, but he's also a rapidly ascending basketball player.

He pulled down 8 rebounds per game last season in the ISL and upped that mark to 9 during the recent AAU campaign while also shooting 44% from behind the three-point line. Most recently, he was picked for the all-star game at the Hoop Group Academic Elite Camp.

Personal Statement

"I commit to working hard on the court and in the classroom. I prioritize team success over individual accolades and have always played unselfish basketball. I am a strong, tough, agile big who can run the floor and hit 3 point shots. I take pride in my defense and rebounding, and can guard multiple positions. This past year, I played mostly center in the ISL, and I was tasked with controlling the boards and guarding the top big or wing on the other team. I shut down multiple D1-level prospects and averaged 8+ Rebounds per game. Over the past year, I've spent countless hours in the gym working on my shooting and ball handling, and in the weight room working on my strength and overall athleticism to be able to play on the wing or in the paint at the next level. This summer I'm shooting 44% (8-18) from 3. My dream is to play high level basketball at a great academic school, and I am willing to work before and after arriving on a college campus."

Recommendations

"Stuart McCallum is a hard working, disciplined player that excels on the defensive end.  Stuart truly understands defense, defensive positioning, talking on defense and compliments that well with his ability to rebound the ball.  Stuart continues to improve his overall offensive game.  Stuart is a former 3-sport athlete that is now focusing exclusively on basketball and is dedicating the time and effort to be a consistent inside/out threat.  Stuart’s best basketball lies ahead of him.  More importantly, and above all, Stuart is a terrific kid, a leader on and off the court, he is outstanding in the classroom, and a pleasure to coach. "
- Bill Holden, Head Coach, Middlesex School

Scout's Take

McCallum is strong and physical with a college-ready body. He also has the high-motor to maximize his power as he simply plays hard all the time. He's a scoring threat with his back to the basket, who goes right into contact, is a solid vertical athlete, and constant double-double threat. While his productivity has been mostly on the perimeter to date, he's extended his game as of late and is now showing more potential facing the basket. He's knocked down threes with regularity this summer and now looks the part of someone who will be able to play pick-and-pop and stretch the floor as well.
