Rising Senior Spotlight - Phil Brown

A year after Izaiah Robinson utilized his post-graduate year to play his way onto the division I level, the Kent School will be welcoming another D1 prospect from New Jersey for a post-grad year in 2020-21.

Phil Brown, who competed at the highest levels of New Jersey high school basketball with Hudson Catholic, has already heard from coaches in the CAA, MAAC, and America East, but is bound to continue to emerge in the coming year.

He was poised for a breakout grassroots campaign but, like many others, has now been robbed of that opportunity.

Nonetheless, there's no denying that D1 coaches will be following his progress next year in the NEPSAC.

Personal Statement

"I play hard every time I hit the floor in practice and games. My ability to be versatile and coachable are among my winning attributes."

Recommendation

"Phil’s versatility on both ends of the floor makes him an intriguing prospect for Division I schools. At 6’6, his ability to guard 1-4 will allow coaches to do a lot of different things to be disruptive on defense. Offensively, Phil has become a big time shooter with range, and has the ability to create for his teammates. Phil lives in the gym, and truly is one of those kids that is getting better every day."
- Jeff Kovner, Head Coach, NJ ShoreShots

Scout's Take

"Brown checks a lot of bounces. He has good size, a strong body, can play and defend multiple positions, and knock down open shots. He puts the ball on the floor well for a guy his size and also has a very good left-hand around the rim as a finisher. I think it's very likely he ends up at the D1 level in the class of 2021."
