Rising Senior Spotlight - Jack Garside

Jack Garside was one of the most decorated high school basketball players on Long Island this winter.

He put up huge individual numbers, stuffing all columns of the stat sheet and being a model of shooting efficiency in the process, while leading his team to a 20-3 record and a share of their league championship.

Along the way he became the sixth player in Kings Park High School history to score his 1,000th point, and the first to ever do so as a junior.

Had we played AAU This spring, Garside would have covered a wide geographic distance to continue to prove himself. While that's not possible at the moment, he came to New England, virtually anyway, to capitalize on the platform the NERR-TV Virtual Showcase has to offer.

Personal Statement

I have always placed a premium on winning and the success of the team.  As a lead guard, I have viewed myself as an extension of the coach on the court and have a strong basketball IQ.  I use my length to my advantage and am at my best when making plays for others but also have the ability to make shots.  I have been fortunate to have coaches who believe in me as a person and a player and continue to teach me to better at both.  Success is not given, it's earned!!

Recommendations

"Jack Garside is a pure 'pass-first' point-guard who has the ability to score at all three levels but possesses the unique ability to make players around him better. A consummate teammate and exemplary leader, Jack has started every varsity game since his freshman year and has helped turn our program into a winner. I have no doubt he will be some college's hardest worker, best role model, and someone who will reach his full potential on and off the court."
- Chris Rube, Head Coach, Kings Park

"Jack is a the type of floor general who is an extension of the coach. Long, high IQ, makes shots, and focuses every ounce of his effort around winning. Jack makes his teammates better but can also score at a high level when his team needs it. He’s from a high character family that is great for a winning culture."
- Joe Calabria, Head Coach, Premier Basketball NY & The Stony Brook School

Scouting Report

Garside's shooting numbers are absolutely off the charts, both from the three-point line (46%) and the free-throw line (86%). You just won't find many high school players that make a higher percentage of shots than that. His release is relatively compact and his follow-through picture perfect. He's not a one-dimensional catch-and-shoot player, far from from it actually. He's good with the ball and really changes speeds off the dribble in order to get into the lane. He's a fundamentally sound true point guard who has good footwork and distributes the ball well. He's even a playmaker on the defensive end of the floor with over three steals per game.
