Rising Senior Spotlight - Connor Knowles

St. Paul Diocesan rising senior guard Connor Knowles is a prospect that college coaches need to be aware of.

He's a well-rounded athlete who has ascended throughout the course of his high school career and yet is very young for a rising senior, having just turned 17 years old.

While both his age and his rate of improvement indicate that his best basketball is still in front of him, he's already distinguished himself as both a true point guard and playmaker, capable of making his way to the next level.

Personal Statement

“I have always had a strong love for the game of basketball ever since I was a kid. I love all aspects of the game and I am eager to compete at all times. I am a true point guard and floor general. I always get my teammates involved, keep high energy on the floor, and I get after it on the defensive end. I am a strong guard who can get to the basket and finish around the rim, create my own shot in the midrange, and knock it down from 3. I have a very high work ethic and make sure I get better every day, whether that’s getting stronger, faster, working on my craft, or even just getting better mentally and learning about the game. I am a very coachable player and whenever I step on the court I always make others around me better. As an honor roll student, I commit to working just as hard in the classroom as I do in the gym and look forward to keep on striving and getting better in the classroom and on the court at the collegiate level.”

Recommendation

"Connor Knowles has worked as hard as any player over the past three years to improve himself. From freshmen year to junior year it’s very noticeable to see how his body, mind and game have changed. As an athlete there is no sport he can’t play no matter the season. He’s bettered his speed, strength and athleticism each year. As a very young and very competitive rising senior he’s a team first, unselfish point guard who has put himself in great position for success as a senior."

Scout's Take

Knowles is a true point guard who gets high-marks for his intangibles, habits, and unselfishness, but he's also a talented playmaker. He's physically strong with a compact build and able to create for himself and others in a variety of different ways. He's very shifty off the bounce with a tight, almost rthmic, handle. He can initiate and absorb contact on his way to the rim and has a good left hand, both as a driver and a finisher. Knowles can both pass and shoot off the dribble as well, with the ability to make tough pull-ups, along with open threes.
