Rider Bound
Putnam Science post-graduate point guard Kealen Ives made a verbal commitment to Rider on Friday night, PSA head coach Tom Espinosa confirmed to the New England Recruiting Report.
The Providence native previously starred at Classical High School, where he was one of the leading scorers in the RIIL as a senior.
He made the decision to do a post-graduate year following his senior year, allowing him to return for another season on the AAU circuit, where he turned in big performance after big performance, albeit while playing with a few different teams.
It began in the spring, when Napier was starring with Metro Boston at the Super 16 Showcase. He put on a scoring display, effortlessly rattling off points and leading Metro all the way to the finals of the event.
Up next was another starring performance at the Elite 75 College Showcase in June where Napier stood out as the best guard in the field. A week later he was playing to rave reviews at the Hoop Group Elite Camp, earning his first division I offers in the process.
He finished the month with the NYC Jayhawks where he added to his offer list while continuing to attract more division I attention.
While Ives ability to score the ball has been on display for the last six months, he’s also capable of being a quality distributor and true point guard. He sees the floor, can deliver the ball, and has leadership abilities.
He joins Andrew and Aaron Robinson, who pledged to Quinnipiac last month, to become the third Putnam Science player to commit to a division I school so far this year.
