Rhody Adds Point

Rhode Island has solidified their depth at the point guard position with a commitment from Mike Powell, a five-foot-ten floor general from Brooks High School in Chicago.

Brooks averaged 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists per game this year and was selected all-area by ESPNBoston.

"Mike Powell Jr. is a true floor general," Brooks coach Bobby Locke told ESPN Chicago. "A throwback point guard. He not only makes plays for himself, but is equally as unselfish deferring to others for the sake of team success. His true strength is his physical and mental toughness defensively. Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships."

Brooks joins Trahson Burrell, T.J. Buchanan, and Jonathan Holton in URI's 2011 recruiting class.
