Reuter ACC Bound

Brewster Academy and New England Playaz big man Jarred Reuter made a verbal commitment to the University of Virginia on Saturday afternoon.

Virginia offered Reuter a scholarship just last week after his performance at the Fab 48 in Las Vegas and it was only 48 hours later that Reuter officially trimmed his list to five schools – South Carolina, Iowa, Providence, Rhode Island, and Virginia.

Things moved quickly from that point on as he quietly scheduled an official visit to UVA’s campus only days later and then didn’t hesitate to make a decision following that trip.

“The visit was great,” Reuter said.  “I loved the coaches and the campus and didn’t think there was a better basketball fit.”

The rugged big man has been one of the most visible prospects in New England since the day he first arrived at the high school level.

He was already a well known local product in the 7th grade and had his choice of prep schools before choosing to play his freshman season at St. Mark’s.  He missed that entire season with injury and opted to return closer to home and repeat his freshman season at Tabor Academy the following year.  He transferred to Brewster Academy for the 2013-2014 season and was a key component to a team that won both the NEPSAC AAA Championship and National Prep Championship.

Reuter has the unique distinction of having played for the same AAU team, the New England Playaz, throughout his entire high school career.

His final summer in a Playaz uniform turned out to be a big one, beginning with a starring performance at the Reebok Breakout Classic and followed by similarly strong performances in Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Las Vegas, all of which  only pushed his recruitment to higher levels, ultimately ending with the defending ACC champions.

Here's a look at how he fits in with Virginia care of ESPN.com.
