Report: Chukwu Down to 2
SNY's Adam Zagoria reported on Wednesday that Fairfield Prep and Connecticut Basketball Club center Paschal Chukwu will choose between Providence and St. Joseph’s, and could be on the brink of a decision.
The report confirms what has long been speculated, but also didn’t attribute the claim to any direct sources.
The seven-footer has ties to both schools. His relationship with Providence head coach Ed Cooley dates back to Cooley’s time as the head coach at the University of Fairfield, while his adopted sister attends St. Joseph’s.
Chukwu visited St. Joseph’s officially earlier this week according to other reports.
Despite being currently ranked 58th overall in the ESPN 100, Chukwu is still flying fairly low under the national radar relative to his talent and recent improvement.
While his apparent preference is to stay close to home he’s had interest from a variety of the nation’s most prominent high-major programs including the likes of Kansas, Texas, Louisville, Georgetown, Maryland, and N.C. State, not to mention local programs like Connecticut and Boston College.
A seven-footer with tremendous agility and mobility, Chukwu has improved by leaps and bounds within the last year. He’s become more assertive at the rim and much more of a commanding offensive presence, while continuing to assert himself as one of the top shot-blockers in the northeast.
Even still, Chukwu is only scratching the surface of his potential. His recent improvement speaks to a learning curve that is on par with the rest of his natural tools and talent. He would undoubtedly be an asset for either program, and has long-term potential that is second to none in New England.
