Putnam’s Buggs Signs with UMass

Putnam Science Academy post-graduate guard John Buggs III signed a National Letter of Intent with UMass on Tuesday after returning home to Louisiana for Thanksgiving break.

Buggs previously starred at at Summerfield High School where he averaged over 23 points per game and won three different state championships in Louisiana.

The 6-foot-2 combo-guard made his New England debut last June at the Elite 75 College Showcase when he was already generating division I interest. He's seen his recruitment spike in the months since as he's proven himself to be one of the most versatile scoring guards in New England.

Best known for his ability to shoot the ball from behind the three-point line, Buggs is also an impressive athlete who can create his own shot and score the ball at all three levels.

He is the third player to sign with UMass this fall and second New England prep product as he joins Woodstock Academy post-graduate wing Preston Santos

Buggs is also the fifth member of Putnam Science Academy's 2019 class to sign with a division I school.

Below are some of his summer highlights.
