PSA Forward Makes Commitment

Putnam Science Academy post-graduate forward Jonte Rutty made a verbal commitment to Georgian Court University on Tuesday.  The news was first announced by the PSA Basketball twitter account.

Rutty will be joining a historic recruiting class at Georgian Court University, a previously all girls school which is set to begin its first full year of co-ed athletics at the NCAA Division II level for next year’s 2013-2014 school year.

Rutty came to PSA from Newburgh Free Academy in New York, where he helped lead his team to the 2011 Section 9 Class AA championship as a junior and averaged 13 points and 9 rebounds last year as a senior.

The six-foot-five forward played primarily on the interior during his high school career, while only getting the opportunity to show his perimeter skills on the AAU circuit with his BC Eagles squad.

This season, he’s moved to the perimeter on a full time basis and has proven to be the prototypical face-up forward thanks to his feathery touch from behind the three-point line.

At Georgian Court, Rutty should be capable of seeing time at all three frontcourt positions next season under first year head coach Enrico Mastroianni, thanks to his versatility and mismatch potential.

First though, he’ll look to complete what has been a successful season at Putnam Science Academy as the team is currently 19-8 overall and riding an 8 game winning streak heading into Wednesday rematch with Notre Dame Prep.
