Powell Earns Scholarship

Brimmer & May senior forward John Powell accepted a full scholarship offer from Bloomfield College on Thursday.

Bloomfield is a small liberal arts college in Bloomfield, New Jersey that competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

They’re coming off a 2013 CACC Tournament Championship and subsequent run to the NCAA Division II tournament.

Powell is a local Massachusetts native who began his career at Ashland High School before transferring into Brimmer & May, where he repeated his sophomore year and has spent the last three seasons.

The subject of wide-ranging recruitment during the course of his career, Powell is a long and mobile, hybrid style, forward who ran with the New England Playaz on the AAU circuit.

He joins Jake Fay (Fordham) and Adrian Oliveira (Southern New Hampshire) to become the third member of Brimmer & May’s senior class to earn a full athletic scholarship.  K.J. Baptiste (Brandeis) and Max Horvath (Macalister) give Brimmer & May five seniors moving on to play college basketball.

Below is a look at one of Powell’s top performances from his senior season – a 20 point, 11 rebound showing against Putnam Science Academy in the Ballas TV Invitational:
