Phiri Lands Big Offer

New England Recruiting Report | Wednesday, May 13th, 2015

Saul Phiri's recruitment went to a new level on Tuesday when DePaul became the first high-major program to offer him a scholarship.

Phiri had previously held numerous mid-major offers, including several in the Atlantic 10 from George Washington, LaSalle and Duquesne among others.

DePaul, which competes in the Big East Conference, named Dave Leitao their new head coach earlier this spring. It is Leitao's second tenure in the position after previously holding the title from 2002-2005.

A Massachusetts native and former UConn assistant, Leitao has made it clear in his first few weeks on the job that he intends to recruit his former stomping ground as the Blue Demons have also offered Travis Atson, Kevin Marfo and Phiri's Mass Rivals teammate Wenyen Gabriel.

Phiri put up some huge scoring numbers during his junior season at Worcester Academy but recently announced he'll be transferring to Woodstock Academy for his senior year where he'll team with the likes of Hamidou Diallo and Mamadou Diarra in the first year of the school's new prep program.
