Orlando Update

New England was well represented when the AAU 10th grade nationals progressed to bracket play as BABC, Maine MAC, Expressions Elite, United Sons and Daughters, Connecticut Select, and Rhode Island Hawks had all won their pool and consequently advanced to the gold bracket.

But there was only one left standing after Thursday night as BABC was the sole program to advance to the Elite 8 with a 46-36 win over Team CBIZ.

Expressions Elite made a run all the way to the Sweet 16 before ultimately running into Ohio Varsity Red while CBC was the only other local program to get out of the second round.

Expressions’ guard Jared Terrell drew the praise of Scout.com’s national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels who called him “an impressive wing scorer” and also said “This is the second time I’ve seen him in July and the second time I’ve walked away impressed.”
Daniels also noted the play of Idris Taqqee, Duby Maduegbunam, Abdul-Malik Abu, Jeremy Miller, and Alec Brennan on the Expressions squad.

As for BABC, their run to repeat as national champions resumes this morning with a 10:40a.m. match-up with Gardner Road Bulldogs in the Elite 8.  Should they win they’ll face the winner of Ohio Varsity White and Rising Stars Gold in a 4pm semifinal.  The other side of the bracket is loaded with New York Gauchos, All Ohio Red, and Team Takeover battling for a trip to the finals.

In AAU 11th grade nationals, four New England programs took first place in their pool to advance to the gold bracket in the Rhode Island Breakers, MB Nation, Middlesex Magic, and Connecticut Basketball Club.

MB Nation’s final pool play victory was particularly rewarding as they knocked off 11th seeded Ohio Hoopsters without both Alex Furness and Chris BraleyHarry Rafferty led the way with 22 points while Liam Langaas was huge with 20 points, 21 rebounds, and 5 assists.
