Northeast Hoops Festival – Friday Recap

Only a handful of teams were in action on Friday night giving us an early preview of what to expect from an exciting weekend of basketball.  Here is a look at some of the players and teams who stood out:

•  Moriba Keita dropped in 29 points to lead the Academic Basketball Club to a big win over Drive4Stardum, 58-54.  Keita, from Bridgeport Central High School, was relentless attacking the basket while Tyler Veroto from East Catholic High School led D4S with 19.

•  Aaron Bartley stood out for a CBA/CBC team by scoring 26 points in a 57-26 win over Connecticut Thunder in the u16 bracket.  The Christian Heritage guard did most of his damage slashing to the basket with his strong body while showing a soft floater inside the paint.

•  Mike Mallory and Edgerton Anderson led a three-point shooting show as CBC’s u16 team scored a win in their opening round game.  Both players connected on four three-pointers each as Mallory finished with 20 points and Anderson 16.

•  Connecticut Explosive announced their place among the dangerous teams in the u16 field as Hartford Public’s Daylon Ore dropped in 29 points to lead them over a Drive4Stardum team that was paced by 18 points from E.O. Smith junior forward Alec Malecki.

•  Academic Basketball Club scored a very impressive win over Connecticut PHD.  Everyone got involved for ABC as Jerome Parkins had 16 by dominating the paint, Steven Johnston 16 by stroking open threes, Tre Tipton 10, Brandon Yarborough 10, and Al Alzuphar 9.

•  This was the first good look we got at Tipton and Alzuphar and we came away impressed with both as Tipton is a long guard with a strong upper body who has a versatile all around floor game and Alzuphar a player who is capable of producing in high volume inside of the paint because of his sheer size and a very soft touch.
