NMH’s Tavroff Ivy Bound
Northfield Mount Hermon and New Heights big man Jake Tavroff made a verbal commitment to Columbia University on Wednesday.
NMH has a long tradition of sending prospects to prestigious academic schools, particulary in the Ivy League, and this commitment solidifies that every game played in that league during the 2021-22 season will have at least one NMH alum on the floor.
Tavroff is a Long Island native who arrived at NMH three years ago. While he battled various nagging injuries in his first two seasons, both his body and his game have gone to unprecedented levels this year. He's chiseled physically, showing more athleticism, asserting himself inside, and starting to extend his game to the perimeter.
"Jake is an elite culture-carrier. During these incredible pandemic times, his leadership has been off the charts and Columbia will be a better program for having Jake in it," said NMH head coach John Carroll. "Basketball-wise, he has spent his time wisely. He changed his body. He changed his athleticism...and the next time he is seen, people are going to see the improvement in his game across the board."
Tavroff becomes the 7th member of NMH's 2021 class to finalize his recruitment and third to commit to an Ivy League School.
He is also the second New England prep product from the New Heights program to commit this week and the third local prep product to commit to Columbia.
