New Hampton Star Passes Away

New Hampton’s 6’7 forward Guy Alang Ntang collapsed during a pick-up game at his New Hampshire prep school on Monday and was rushed to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, NH where he was later pronounced dead.

Ntang had committed to Wichita State in the fall before Head Coach Mark Turgeon accepted the head coaching position at Texas A&M. Wichita State’s new head coach, Greg Marshall, traveled to the New Hampton School on Monday to visit with Ntang and watch him play. Marshall was in the stands when Ntang lost consciousness and fell backwards.

According to Jeff Goodman of Scout.com and FoxSports.com a shaken Marshall did not wish to comment other then to say it was “tragic”.

The Wichita State athletic department issued the following statement: “We are deeply saddened by Guy’s tragic death. Our heart-felt sympathies go out to Guy’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches during this time of loss”.

New Hampton Headmaster Andre Menke issued the following statement: “We are deeply saddened by tonight’s tragic event. New Hampton is a very close knit community, and Guy was a wonderful part of it. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Ntang was a 6’7 forward, originally from Cameroon, where his parents still live. He was an extremely talented basketball player who was expected to make an immediate impact at Wichita State.

His passing came on the same day as the terrible shootings on the campus of Virginia Tech.
