NERR-TV Virtual Frosh/Soph Showcase – Tafari Plummer

Holy Cross High School sophomore Tafari Plummer may still be just a sophomore, but he's mature beyond his years and has already distinguished himself both on and off the court.

On the court, he seeks out every opportunity for competition and has proven himself by putting up big numbers as a freshman, winning numerous championships and awards.

Off the court, he's distinguished himself academically, played multiple instruments in the school band, worked as a junior lifeguard and swim instructor, and volunteered at places including his local church, the town library, and various community and sporting events.

His goal is to play college basketball at the division I level and he's already garnered interest from a variety of coaches at that level while proactively taking visits to numerous college campuses.

Personal Statement

"I believe that attending college will help me tremendously with my personal, professional and career growth. I have applied myself in school and, therefore, it reflects in my grades. I would be a great addition to any basketball program because I am very coachable, a team leader, and a very good team player. If given the opportunity for a Division 1 scholarship, that will be a dream come to reality.  I know that having a good character will take you a long way, for that reason, I am always respectful to others, I work hard to make good choices and I am a responsible individual with strong work ethics."

Recommendations

"I have never written an email such as this since I am a believer that the reputation and accompanying notoriety has to be earned by the player on the court by competing in top level events during the AAU season. This obviously has been delayed this year and possibly may not happen at all in 2020. Tafari is a top student at a very competitive Catholic High School that competes in the top league in New York City.. He is constantly in our gym working to improve his skills. Tafari comes from one of the finest families that have ever been a part of Lightning Basketball. In all, this is a very special young man on the court and in the classroom. He has tremendous family support and guidance. He is the 'total package.'"
- Jim Fox, Executive Director, Lightning Basketball

"Tafari is the kind of young man that every coach loves to have as part of his program because of the level of commitment that he puts into improving his game and the fact that he is a great teammate. He is a talented player-a big guard who runs a team and who uses his quickness and strength to get his own shot at the rim, to create great looks for his teammates, and to impact and disrupt the game on the defensive end. He is only beginning to scratch the surface of his potential and has the dedication to his craft that will allow him to not only reach, but exceed expectations. "
- Ray Cullinan, Head Coach, Holy Cross High School

"Tafari's court sense and basketball IQ are way beyond his peers!  He is one of those rare players who changes the game on BOTH ends of the court. He's also a very good rebounding guard and sets his teammates up real nice."
- Terry Tarpey, Assistant Principal, Holy Cross High School

Scouting Report

Plummer is a well-rounded young guard with the type of truly unique intangibles that suggest he should continue to improve and evolve at a rapid rate over the course of the next two-and-a-half years. He has a very polished pull-up game for this stage in his career but is also capable of scoring the ball in a variety of ways while playing on and off the ball. He competes defensively, rebounds well from the perimeter, and has a good early basketball I.Q.
