Murphy Enjoys Duke Visit

Alex Murphy was at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Sunday night to watch Duke earn a 71-64 win over Maryland.

Murphy made the trip following St. Mark’s win over Milton Academy on Saturday and stayed until Monday when an impending storm forced a quick departure that morning.

“It was great,” Murphy said on Tuesday.  “I really enjoyed the visit.”

As part of the unofficial visit, Murphy not only got to spend time with Duke’s players and coaches, but also watch the Blue Devils go through their day long preparations for their ACC clash.

Prior to the game Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski had a message for Murphy.

“He told me to watch how Kyle Singler played,” Murphy said.  “Take note of what he does and how he plays because that would be a similar role to what mine would be if I went down there.”

Following the visit, Murphy wouldn’t go so far as to say that Duke was the favorite to land his services but did single out two schools among the six he is still considering.

“Duke and Florida have recruited me the hardest and those are two schools that I could see myself at both academically and athletically,” he said.  “I’m also still considering Boston College, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Villanova.”

Murphy is the sixth ranked prospect in the national class of 2012 and top ranked small forward in the country according to ESPN.com.  He saw recruitment from virtually all of the nation’s most prestigious college basketball programs before cutting his list.

Murphy said he has no definitive timetable to make his decision.
