Mobley Makes his Pick
Tommy Mobley proved himself a division I player within the last year.
He was a starting guard for a BABC team that won Division A in the Nike EYBL, led the prestigious grassroots league in three-point shooting for a good portion of the season and ultimately landed his first division I offer this summer.
Yet, on Tuesday, Phillips Exeter Academy head coach Jay Tilton announced via twitter that Mobley had committed to Amherst College pending acceptance of his early decision application.
While the news came as a surprise to many, Mobley's thought process was clear as he prioritized a chance to get an education from one of the top liberal arts schools in the country while simultaneously having an opportunity to make an immediate impact for a program that consistently challenges for both NESCAC and national championships.
While Mobley is currently a post-graduate at Exeter, his recent career at Newton North High School was nothing less than one of the most decorated the MIAA has seen in recent years.
He averaged over 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals per game as a senior and also finished with over 1600 career points, ranking him second in school history, and 300 career three-pointers according to the Boston Herald.
Beyond his abilities on the basketball court, Mobley is also known on the circuit as a very intelligent, personable and charismatic young man with a bright future on and off the court.
