Mekhi Conner Commits to Sacred Heart
Just a couple of weeks ago, Putnam Science Academy/Team New England HGSL 2024 6’1” guard Mekhi Conner signed with Sacred Heart University.
He also received offers from Bryant, Gardner-Webb, FIU, St. Bonaventure, and Stony Brook, as well as Division II offers from Mercy University, Dominican University, Franklin Pierce University, and Post University.
Conner popped onto the radar early in his high school career at Notre Dame-West Haven, earning CIAC 2021 All-SCC First Team honors for his performance throughout the infamous COVID season.
During the 2021-22 season, Conner helped lead Notre Dame-West Haven to an SCC Championship, as well as to the 2022 CIAC Division 1 State Championship game, where they unfortunately fell to a strong East Catholic team led by current UConn star Donovan Clingan, but they finished the year with a 25-2 overall record. He once again earned All-SCC First Team honors for his performance throughout the season. He was also named to the CHSCA Division 1 All-State First Team.
Conner’s success continued throughout last year (2022-23), leading Notre Dame-West Haven to its second consecutive SCC Championship. They fell in the CIAC Division 1 State Semifinals to a powerful Northwest Catholic squad, but they finished the year with a 23-3 overall record. He once again earned CIAC Division 1 All-State First Team honors for his performance throughout the season.
In May, Conner announced that he would be transferring to Putnam Science Academy to join the reigning back-to-back National Prep Champions. He saw great success this past summer with Team New England, as Division I offers began rolling in.
Not long into the season with Putnam Science, Conner made his commitment to Sacred Heart for the 2024-25 season. It will be exciting to track his progress during the next chapter of his career in his home state of Connecticut.
