McDevitt Earns Scholarship
Greely High School big man Mike McDevitt made a verbal commitment to Franklin Pierce College last week, accepting a full athletic scholarship to the division II school.
McDevitt is a versatile six-foot-eight big man who is coming off a successful summer with the Maine Athletic Club as they competed in both New York and Orlando.
“He played hurt at nationals and he really competed,” MAC head coach Carl Parker said. “He gave us an inside presence because he’s gotten stronger and more confident in the low block. He can step out and shoot the ball too and in that league [the Northeast 10], that really translates.”
Franklin Pierce became the first school to offer McDevitt a scholarship in mid-July and continued to follow him in throughout the month. His performance was a big reason why MAC was able to win the silver bracket championship at the AAU Silver Super Showcase and finish both tournaments with a cumulative 10-4 record.
McDevitt has long been known as an intriguing prospect because of his combination of size and skill, but it has really been within the last six months that he has started to turn potential into production on a more consistent basis. At his best, he is a player who can score both inside and out while also putting the ball on the floor and knocking down mid-range jump shots.
He joins Bonney Eagle point guard Dustin Cole to become the second Maine product to commit to Franklin Pierce in the class of 2014.
