Makai Makes the Call

New England Recruiting Report | Monday, September 5th, 2016

Mass Rivals longtime point guard Makai Ashton-Langford made a verbal commitment to the University of Connecticut on Monday following his official visit to the campus over the weekend.

The Worcester native had previously trimmed his list to just two schools - UConn and Providence - and visited both campuses this week. He was also widely recruited by some of the other top programs from around the country before it became clear he would definitely stay close to home.

ESPN broke the news of Ashton-Langford's commitment and provided in-depth analysis with their Scout's Take.

Ashton-Langford is the winningest player in Mass Rivals history according to head coach and program director Vin Pastore and led the team to four different championships this summer including the Adidas Gauntlet Finale and the Adidas Summer Championships live from Las Vegas on ESPNU.

Ashton-Langford has also had a decorated high school career, first rising to prominence at St. Peter Marian High School before transferring to Cushing Academy where he continued to establish himself as one of the top point guards in the national class of 2017. This year, he'll spend his post-graduate year at Brewster Academy.

He joins Azar Swain (Yale) and Tamenang Choh (Brown) to become the third Rivals product to commit to a division I school in the class of 2017. Below are some of his highlights from the Gauntlet circuit care of the Rivals network on yahoo.
