Major Prep School Tournaments Coming to New England

New England will host two major prep school tournaments this fall.  The National Prep Showcase will kick off the season on November 16th – 18th at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, while the Hoop Mountain Prep School Classic will come to Marianapolis Prep just two short weeks later. 

The National Prep Showcase is widely considered to be the nation’s premier prep school tournament.  Every year the top programs from around the country hope to land one of the highly coveted spots in the field.  This year’s field could be the best ever as Tyreke Evans and John Riek will both be in action.  Evans, who is arguably the top senior in the country, will lead his American Christian team into the tournament.  Meanwhile Riek, who is widely considered the top-post grad in the country, will anchor his Winchendon team.  American Christian will face off against Winchedon in one of the tournament’s highlight games on Saturday, November 17th at 3pm. 

Other teams in the field include:  St. Thomas More (CT); South Kent (CT); Notre Dame Prep (MA); Bridgton Academy (ME), Patterson School (NC); Hargreave Military Academy (VA); Northfield Mount Hermon (MA); Maine Central Institute (ME); New Hampton (NH); Tilton (NH); Worcester Academy (MA); Lee Academy (ME); Massanutten Military Academy (VA); Fork Union Military Academy (VA); Summit Prep (CA); Brewster Academy (NH); Champlain St. Lambert (Montreal; Canada); and Findlay Prep

Some of the many top players in the field include: Devin Ebanks (St. Thomas More, committed to Indiana); Isaiah Thomas (South Kent, committed to Washington); Melquin Bolden (Notre Dame Prep, committed to Louisville); Matt Simpkins (Bridgton Academy); Nate Miles (Patterson School, committed to UConn); Chris Braswell (Hargreave Military Academy, committed to Georgetown); Alex Oriakhi (Tilton, committed to UConn); Emmanuel Negedu (Brewster Academy, committed to Arizona); and DeAndre Liggins (Findlay Prep, committed to Kentucky).

After the conclusion of the National Prep Championship local fans are in store for another treat as the Hoop Mountain Prep School Classic will bring a top field to Marianapolis Prep from November 30th – December 2nd. 

The tournament field has only recently been announced and will feature the following schools:  Blair Academy (NJ); Notre Dame Prep (MA); Laurinburg (NC); Nobles & Greenough (MA); Hebron Academy (ME); Proctor Academy (NH); Vanier Prep (Montreal, Canada); New York Boys Club (NY); Buckingham, Browne, & Nichols (MA); St. Andrew’s (RI); Choate Rosemary Hall (CT); Marianapolis Prep (CT); and Brimmer & May (MA).  

Some of the top individual players expected to be in action include:  Jarrett Mann (Blair Academy, committed to Stanford); Malik Smith (Notre Dame Prep); Raheem Singleton, Aaron Williams, and Gabe Fumudoh (Laurinburg); Tucker Halpern (Nobles & Greenough); Andrew McCarthy (Buckingham, Browne, & Nichols); Mike Culpo and Brian Hanuschak (St. Andrew’s); Mike Ryce and Luke Mattarazzo (Choate Rosemary Hall); Mike Myers-Keitt and Reuben Cabrea (Marianapolis Prep); and Kyle Casey (Brimmer & May).
