The 6-foot-5 forward has had a storied career for Hingham, helping to lead them to a sectional final in 2018 and a Patriot League championship in 2019.
Following the season, he was named MVP of the Patriot League's Keenan Division.
Lowther has been no less impressive on the travel circuit where he's been a core of the foundation for a Rise Above program that has made a quick ascension in recent years.
"He's got that 'it' factor that you don't see too often anymore," Rise Above director Brendan Carter said about Lowther. "His toughness is what got him recruited but in my opinion, John hasn't even scratched the surface of what his overall potential is. At 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, he is a match-up nightmare with his ability to knock down shots and attack the rim with power and athleticism. John was a hot commodity from the time we stepped on the floor last spring to the moment he committed to WPI this week. He's got the chance to be very special!"
Lowther joins his Hingham & R.A.B. teammate John Gates in WPI's recruiting class along with Groton Dubstanble's Evan Cook, Milton Academy's Drew Thibeault, and Arlington's Sam Swift.
