Leclerc’s Recruiting Picking Up

Sam Leclerc is not a name that too many people outside of New England have heard.  But his game is certainly worth remembering, especially for college coaches looking for a point guard in the class of 2008.

The Maine native shined at last year’s New England Elite 75 Showcase earning himself a place on the camp’s All-Star team.  His ability to see the floor and make his teammates better was especially impressive that day along with his excellent decision making with the ball in his hands.

Leclerc’s only problem is that playing high school basketball in Maine isn’t always conducive to getting maximum exposure.  But after being the subject of a recent article on scout.com Leclerc is finally starting to get some of the attention he deserves.

“I had a few new schools call after Jeff (Goodman) wrote that article,” Leclerc said earlier this evening.

BU, UMBC, Fairfield, Florida Atlantic, and Lehigh are among the schools who have expressed an interest in recent weeks while Maine, New Hampshire, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, and George Mason had already been involved.

“I was really excited when BU called,” he said.  “I would love to go to school in the Boston area.  Plus they are great from an educational aspect and have a good team every year.”

As it turns out Leclerc will get a chance to play on the BU campus when he competes in this year’s New England Elite 75 Showcase on August 15th.  The talented point guard will also be competing with his MBR team later this month at the AAU Super Showcase and AAU Nationals in Orlando, Florida.
