Lawrence Makes Pick
New Hampton School and Expressions Elite's Kimani Lawrence annnounced his commitment to Arizona State on Saturday afternoon from the Davy Lopez Recreation Center in his hometown of Providence, Rhode Island.
Arizona State was one of three schools on Lawrence's final list along with USC and Florida. Texas and Pittsburgh were previously on his final five.
The local Rhode Island product who was a well known prospect before he ever played his first game, Lawrence played the first two years of his high school career at Cushing Academy before transferring to New Hampton School at the beginning of his junior season.
While Lawrence's name had been well-known to fans and recruiters alike, his game caught up in a big way last spring when led Expressions in scoring during the EYBL regular season with just under 16 points per game while also shooting 45% from the three-point line and pulling in nearly 6 rebounds per game.
His recruitment quickly grew alongside his game with numerous new scholarship offers coming in throughout the remainder of the grassroots season.
Now, Arizona State is getting a big wing and high level athlete who is capable of playing multiple positions, finishing explosively above the rim and knocking down open shots from behind the three-point line.
He joins Jermaine Samuels (Villanova) and Tremont Waters (Georgetown) to become the third Expressions player in the class of 2017 to commit to a division I program. He is also the third NHS product to commit to a division I school in the class of 2017 joining Anthony Gaines (Northwestern) and Kristers Zoriks (St. Mary's).
