Laszewski Picks Notre Dame
When it was all said and done, Nate Laszewski had his choice of some of the most prestigious college basketball programs in the country.
The Northfield Mount Hermon and New England Playaz forward was one of the nation's biggest stock-risers in the month of July as he helped lead the Playaz to the finals of both the Adidas Gauntlet Finale as well as the Adidas Summer Championships picking up offers from the likes of North Carolina, Indiana, Arizona, and others along the way.
Laszewski's prep career has been no less decorated as he won the NEPSAC AAA Tournament MVP award as a sophomore while leading NMH to a championship. As a junior, he was named second team All-New England while helping NMH return to the finals of both the NEPSAC and National tournaments.
He chose Notre Dame after also taking fall visits to North Carolina and Wake Forest earlier this month. His commitment is a signficant one for the Irish as they not only finish the top ranked recruiting class in their program's history but also solidify their pipeline into New England as Laszewski follows in the footsteps of current senior Bonzie Colson and alums Pat Connaughton and Zach Auguste among others.
This has been a memorable week for NMH as Laszewski becomes the third player in their 2018 class to commit in as many days. The streak began with Kai Toews' pledge to UNCW on Monday followed by Noah Kirkwood's commitment to Harvard on Tuesday. Chuck Hannah committed to Elon last week while Calvin Whipple pledged to Fairfield in August.
In Laszewski, Notre Dame is getting one of the best face-up four-men in the national class of 2018. He's a high level shooter from behind the three-point line who showed growth as a defender, rebounder, and more versatile scoring threat in recent months. Below are some of his highlights with the Playaz while competing in Las Vegas in the final week of his grassroots career.
