Roy Kane 2016

Former Norwalk High School standout and current Notre Dame Prep post-graduate Roy Kane Jr. committed to the University of New Haven on Friday.

Kane is the second local prep product to pledge to the Chargers in recent weeks after Hotchkiss post-graduate guard Elijah Bailey signed his National Letter of Intent last month.

Kane had a huge high school career in the CIAC, putting up big scoring and rebounding totals for numerous years for Norwalk, while also running with USAD on the AAU circuit where he landed his first division I scholarship offer. The versatile forward continued to be recruited by a variety of scholarship level schools during his season at Notre Dame and now projects as an immediate impact player from New Haven.

While Kane's skill set has improved dramatically in recent years, allowing him to be a more consistent shooting threat from behind the three-point line, his ability to take the ball off the defensive glass and start the break with his dribble is one of his most defining qualities.

Bailey graduated from Long Island Lutheran, one of New York's most storied high school programs last year, before spending the summer playing with Expressions Elite. He put up huge numbers this season for Hotchkiss, averaging 24 points per game and being named 1st Team All New England in Class A of the NEPSAC.

Bailey is a power guard with a college ready body who proved himself a consistent shot-maker this year, both from behind the arc as well as in the mid-range area, and also has the ability to get all the way to the rim.

Kane and Bailey are joined by former Notre Dame High School and Putnam Science guard Danny Upchurch, who will be transferring into New Haven following two years at Charleston Southern.
