Jayden Johnson Chooses The Bulldogs

Earlier this week, Cushing Academy/CM3 Elite guard Jayden Johnson committed to South Carolina State, taking on the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference at the Division I level.

The New York City-native came to New England from Brooklyn Collegiate, where he competed in the PSAL, averaging 15.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.9 steals, also shooting 58% from the field and 40% from 3-point range.

Brooklyn Collegiate went on a run to the semifinals of the 2023 Brooklyn Boro playoffs behind Johnson’s dominance. He was ultimately named to the NYSSWA-AA Sixth Team for his performance throughout the season.

Johnson’s success continued into the 2023 grassroots season, catching our scouts’ attention at the Northeast Hoop Festival in April after leading CM3 Elite to a double-digit victory.

He announced in early August that he would be taking his talents to Cushing Academy to compete in the elite NEPSAC Class-AA, as well as in the elite NEBL.

Our scouts once again noted his game in September during Open Gym season as he made his Cushing “debut” so-to-speak, highlighting his shooting, handling, control, and playmaking abilities.

A top-30 recruit in Massachusetts and top-75 in New England for the class of 2024, he has impressed all season long, scoring 10 points and grabbing 8 boards in a win over Academy of Central Florida at the National Prep Showcase to kick of the season in November.

He continued his dominance throughout the year, tallying 13 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists in a tight battle with South Kent at the Scholar Roundball Classic in December.

He also led Cushing with 21 in a tough battle with Phelps at the Perkiomen Basketball Tournament in January, also adding 13 in a brutal fight with Springfield Commonwealth the next day, and then 14 in a win over Spire Institute the final day to close out the event.

He earned All-NEPSAC Class-AA Honorable Mention following an impressive season of New England prep basketball, which included maintaining a 48% 3-point percentage throughout the year.. He earned the offer from SCSU just last month (April).

It will be exciting to watch Jayden Johnson compete at the Division I level with the South Carolina State Bulldogs for the next chapter of his basketball career.
