Ivy Bound Mitchell is a Bear

New England Recruiting Report | Friday, June 30th, 2017

Belmont Hill School and Mass Rivals wing David Mitchell made a verbal commitment to Brown University on Thursday while on their campus for an unofficial visit.

Mitchell has been a frequent visitor to the Bears' campus in recent years as he has been a top priority for head coach Mike Martin and his staff dating back to his days as an underclassmen.

Mitchell took to his twitter account on Thursday afternoon to confirm his decision.

Mitchell has been one of the more succesful grassroots players in New England over the course of the last three years, playing at the 17u level the entire time. He came off the bench two years ago as just a rising sophomore when the Rivals went to the finals of the nationally televised Adidas Summer Championships in Las Vegas. He played a larger role last summer as the team swept every Adidas summer tournament and this spring he has been second on the team in minutes played as the Rivals finished the Gauntlet with an 8-0 record.

"David  is everything that a coach could ever dream of," Mass Rivals' head coach Vin Pastore said. "He's a super talent, a warrior, has an incredible work ethic, is a great student, and an even better person."

The southpaw brings the Bears a physically strong and equally tough presence on the wing. He's a hard-nosed defender, potentially versatile with his ability to defend bigger players, a hard straight line driver, and improving jump shooter.

Mitchell becomes the fourth Rivals product to commit to an Ivy League School in the last two years as he follows a 2017 class that includes Tamenang Choh (Brown), Azar Swain (Yale), and Jarrod Simmons (Penn).
