Hyland to Visit Gonzaga

The New England Recruiting Report caught up with Keegan Hyland at last week’s Northeast Hoops Festival to get the latest on his recruitment and his plans for next year.

Hyland missed all but the last two games of his senior season at South Portland High School this year after suffering a stress fracture in his groin area.

He saw recruitment from conferences as high as the Atlantic 10 last spring and summer and eventually made a brief commitment to Vermont in October, before changing his mind the next day.  A few weeks later he made the decision to do a post-graduate year at Brewster Academy.

But as Hyland told NERR last week, some schools have yet to give up on him for 2010.

“Right now I’m definitely going to Brewster, but coaches are still talking to me about 2010,” Hyland said.
One of those schools is Gonzaga who sent assistant coach Ray Giacoletti up to South Portland High School earlier in the month to watch Hyland work out.

“Coach Giacoletti told me that Coach Few is the only guy who offers scholarships, but they want me to come on an official visit,” Hyland said last week at the Northeast Hoops Festival.

Less than a week later and Hyland has scheduled that visit and now plans to be on the Gonzaga campus on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Other schools who Hyland says have expressed interest in him for 2010 are Penn State and Seton Hall while he says Vanderbilt and Providence have done the same for 2011.

On the grassroots circuit, Hyland is running with the New England Playaz this season and while he’s still getting his game legs back, he exploded for a big game this weekend at the Real Deal on the Rock Tournament in Arkansas where the Playaz advanced to the semi-finals.  Early in the weekend, he connected on 9 of 12 attempts from the three-point line to finish with a game high 30 points.
