Huge Weekend for URI

This was a huge weekend for the University of Rhode Island as they picked up a pair of major commitments.

The first came from six-foot-four guard E.C. Matthews, who is ranked among the top 100 prospects in the national class of 2013.  Matthews stars at Romulus High School in Michigan and projects as URI's point guard of the future where he will provide tremendous size and playmaking ability.  He picked Rhody offer scholarship offers from a plethora of high-major programs.

Less than 24 hours after Matthews committed to head coach Danny Hurley, Rhode landed a second impact recruit in six-foot-seven power forward Hassan Martin from Curtis High School.  Martin, who ran with New Heights on the travel circuit, is a highly athletic southpaw with a rapidly developing face-up skill set.  Like Matthews, he also held multiple high-major scholarship offers.

Martin was on URI's campus this weekend for an official visit along with sharp-shooting guard Jon Severe from Christ the King High School in New York.
