Houde Earns Scholarship

East Catholic High School graduate and St. Thomas More post-graduate point guard Matt Houde announced his verbal commitment to St. Michael’s, a division II school in Vermont, this past weekend.

Houde, who spent time with both Connecticut Elite and NE6 over the course of his grassroots career, had a decorated high school career at East Catholic. In addition to being a part of East Catholic’s 2019 Division 1 state title team, he made a pair of CCC all-conference teams in 2020 and 2021.

“Matt is a true point guard that has elite vision and passing ability,” East Catholic head coach Luke Reilly said. “From a leadership standpoint, he is the son of a coach and is one of the best verbal leaders on and off the court that I’ve had the privilege to coach. I’m excited to see his growth and thrilled for his opportunity to work with such a great coach and person in Coach Eaton. Matt is fired up to be a part of the great program at St. Mikes.”

Houde has made a seamless transition to the prep level since arriving at St. Thomas More earlier this year, establishing himself as a key piece of the rotation for head coach Jere Quinn.

“We’re excited for Matt and we’re excited for St. Mike’s,” Quinn stated. “Matt’s a tough kid who came from a good high school program and knows what it takes to be successful. He’s worked extremely hard to get to where he is today. He’s a pass-first point who’s not afraid to do some of the dirty work. Congrats to East Catholic, his family, and St. Mike’s. He epitomizes what a student-athlete is.”
