Hoop Mountain Prep Classic Preview

With some of New England’s most storied post-graduate programs, handfuls of talent coming south from Canada, and other teams from Texas, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and elsewhere, the 2010 Hoop Mountain Prep Classic has established itself as one of the premier post-graduate events around.

The local New England talent will be headlined by the likes of perennial powerhouses Notre Dame Prep, South Kent, Winchendon, and Bridgton Academy and will also include a ton of talent from the newly formed class AA including Worcester Academy, Marianapolis Prep, Brimmer & May, Boston Trinity, Cushing Academy, St. Andrew’s, Vermont Academy, Wilbraham & Monson, and Lawrence Academy as well as Salisbury, Suffield Academy, and Putnam Science Academy.

The action tips off Thursday night at 5:00p.m. when TAAG Academy comes from Florida to take on Boston Trinity followed by Brimmer & May against Next Level Prep from Texas at 6:30p.m. and a nightcap of Marianapolis against Notre Dame at 8:00p.m.

Friday’s action gets underway at 3pm and features six games including a showdown between South Kent and Kiski scheduled for a 6:45p.m. start.  The game will be a homecoming for South Kent junior Ricardo Ledo who teams with St. John’s bound swingman Maurice Harkless and Cincinnati bound point guard GeLawn Guyn to form one of the top back-courts in the country.  Kiski is led by head coach Daryn Freedman who returns to New England atop a talented team with a 10-1 record.

Eight games are on tap for Saturday beginning at 10:00a.m. with Canadian powerhouse REDA taking on TAAG Academy.  Kiski will return to the court at 1pm for another high profile match-up against Nia Prep featuring Cincinnati bound swingman Shaquille Thomas and one of the top big men left available in the national class, Ryan Rhoomes.  A series of all New England clashes begins at 2:30 as Brimmer & May faces Suffield, Marianapolis battles Proctor, and St. Andrew’s squares off against Putnam Science.

Sunday’s action features a total of nine games beginning at 9:00a.m. with another set of local New England rival contests beginning at 12:45 with Winchendon taking on Putnam Science followed by Marianapolis hosting Bridgton and St. Andrew’s against Salisbury.  Brimmer & May and Wilbraham & Monson will lock up in a highly anticipated battle of two top AA schools at 4:15 followed by South Kent against Lawrence Academy and then the nightcap of Cushing Academy vs. Vermont Academy.
