Hartung Earns Scholarship
Ryan Hartung, a six-foot-five forward from Phillips Academy of Andover and the Rivals Basketball Club, made a verbal commitment to St. Anselm’s on Wednesday.
Hartung has been a prospect on the rise over the course of the last year as his frame continued to stretch to his current height and he solidified himself as one of the better shooters in New England.
He was one of the main staples of a Phillips Academy team that was one of the most improved clubs in class A of the NEPSAC this season and has continued to take his game to new levels this spring and summer on the AAU circuit with the Rivals Basketball Club.
St. Anselm’s became the first school to offer Hartung a full scholarship earlier this month and was rewarded for being proactive by landing a commitment from the talented forward just as he was beginning to attract division I interest.
“He’s a great get for them,” Rivals head coach Vin Pastore said. “His length and ability to shoot the basketball are going to make him a great fit for them.”
Hartung’s versatility should also prove to be a major asset for St. Anselm’s as his combination of size and skill will allow him to provide a mismatch problem that can play several different position in the highly competition Northeast 10 Conference.
