Hamby Headed to Jefferson
Winchendon School guard Marquis Hamby announced his commitment yesterday afternoon to Jefferson, a Division Two school located in Philadelphia.
Hamby started his high school career at Troy. After getting limited varsity experience as a freshman, he took an elevated role the next season. Hamby was a starter for the Flying Horses, earning 2020 Suburban Council All-League Third Team honors. His 2020-21 season was shortened due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, but he still led Troy to the Suburban Council Tournament Title Game.
Hamby decided after that year to transfer to Winchendon and reclassify into 2023. His first season in NEPSAC AA against elevated competition was a successful one, earning All-League Honorable Mention honors.
He spent time in AAU Basketball with both Albany City Rocks of the Nike EYBL and Team Fredette who competed in the Under Armour Rise circuit.
“Marquis has become team success driven in his time at Winchendon,” said head coach Kevin Kehoe. "Whether it is being unselfish and sacrificing for the team or being slightly selfish to lead the team, Quis is a winner.”
“Jefferson plays fast team basketball. Coach Riley is a disciple of Coach Magee, their old school team style was made for Marquis Hamby.”
Hamby becomes the second member of Winchendon’s 2023 class to finalize their plans to play scholarship level college basketball next fall.
