Sunday Okeke 2017

Greens Farms Academy announced earlier this week that senior big man Sunday Okeke would continue his basketball career at Wake Forest University.

Okeke will join the Deamon Decons program as a preferred walk-on next season after having previously earned various division I scholarship offers. Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning is a former college All-American and NBA All-Star who has developed a reputation for developing big men since joining the coaching ranks.

"I loved the environment and I loved the coaches. They were really nice to me and showed me love. I got to meet some of the faculty and some of the professors and found out how the relationships work between the student and the instructors. With the class sizes, I can work directly with the professors and succeed," Okeke told the Deamon Deacon Digest. "I met nearly all the guys [on the team] and they were so nice to me. It was such a friendly environment. The coach and player environment was so great - I look forward to being a part of that."

While most walk-ons rarely see any meaningful minutes, it isn't inconceivable that Okeke could eventually challenge for minutes in the rotation if he can stay healthy and continue to develop on both ends of the floor. A 6-foo-8 and roughly 230 pound big man, he certainly has the frame to hold his own physically.

The Nigerian native developed into a quick star for GFA early in his career and most recently averaged 14 points and 15 rebounds per game during an injury plagued junior season. This spring and summer he ran with New Heights on the Under Armour Association circuit and stood out with his ability to defend and rebound against top national competition.

Former GFA big man Sean Obi is currently on scholarship at Duke University after transferring from Rice University following his freshmen season.
