Frosh/Soph Flashback 2008

The New England Elite 75 Showcase – Frosh/Soph Edition is all about finding the top up and coming prospects in New England while giving the already big names a chance to solidify their status.   

2008’s inaugural showcase did just that.  At the time, guys like Domonique Bull and Anthony Jernigan were two of the top young talents in New England.  Bull was a physically advanced scoring swingman and Jernigan was a young wizard with the basketball.  Both players starred at the 2008 event but the bigger story that day was some of previously unheralded talented who made a name for themselves. 

Kaleb Tarczewski was a skinny center from Stevens High School in New Hampshire at the time and while still a long way from the aircraft carrier he is today, he showed signs of his potential with his size and ability to run the floor. 

Another guy who stood out was a six-foot-one shooting guard from Bishop Hendricken High School who had a knack for making plays off the dribble.  Three years and five inches later and now Ricardo Ledo is one of the top shooting guards in the entire country. 

Then there was a lanky six-foot-five forward from Marlboro High School named Zach Auguste.  He was long and pretty skilled, but still physically weak at the time.  Three years and four inches later and he would have guys like Billy Donovan, Bob Huggins, and Buzz Williams chasing him across the country. 

One of the day’s top producing big men of the day was a stocky forward named Georges Niang.  At the time it seemed almost impossible to think that he would be capable of changing his body and expanding his game to the point where he would be the top 100 prospect he is today. 

Those guys were really only just the beginning as other top prospects at the event included the likes of James Kennedy, John Papale, Evan Cummins, Rene Castro, Andrew Chrabascz, Tyler McFarland, Alex Furness, Adrian Oliveira, Chris Braley, Jake Fay, Egi Gjikondi, Tyler Strange, Rohan Brown, and others. 

And so the first ever New England Elite 75 Showcase – Frosh/Soph Edition was a big success, featuring numerous players who would go on to earn college scholarship, four future top 100 prospects, and two future top ten national players.
