Fordham Adds Second Prep Product

The Fordham Rams continue to carve out new inroads into the New England prep school scene.

Head coach Tom Pecora received a verbal commitment from Lee Academy post-graduate Travion Leonard on Thursday.  Leonard joins Notre Dame Prep guard Mandell Thomas in the Rams’ 2012 recruiting class.

Like many programs, the Rams were desperately looking to add size along their frontline, and Leonard certainly fits that bill.

The six-foot-eight two-hundred-and-sixty pound big man is a wide body with quick feet and soft hands in the middle.  He’s already dropped over 30 pounds since arriving at Lee in September and has the tools to be a valuable asset to the Rams if he can continue to work on his conditioning.

Leonard is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina who reportedly saw recruitment from other programs including Duquesne, East Carolina, UNC-Wilmington, and UNC-Greensboro.

The key for Leonard moving forward will be his ability to improve his endurance, while not necessarily shrinking his frame too much, since his wide body is the basis for the vast majority of his production.

It was earlier this season at November’s National Prep Showcase when Leonard caught the eye of Draft Express’ Jonathan Givony who noted his great feet and hands and said he was reminiscent of Sofoklis Schortsanitis because his size made him un-guardable in the post.
