Matt Folger 2016

Williston Northampton's post-graduate forward Matthew Folger is headed to Middlebury College next year to continue his basketball career in the NESCAC.

The 6-foot-8 forward previously starred at Weston High School in Connecticut before opting for a post-graduate year, but it was on last spring's AAU circuit that he really started to make a name for himself.

With his good size, long arms and developing inside-out skill set, Folger's upside was obvious and while he had put up good numbers at Weston, his ability to have similar production against higher level competition made him an intriguing prospect for coaches at a variety of different levels.

Starring with The System, Folger seemed to make more waves on an almost weekly basis and kept that going into the summer where he delivered another big outing at the Elite 75 College Showcase.

At Williston Northampton, he's joined not just the defending Class A champions, but a team with unmatched depth at that level. He's fit in beautifully, dropping a 20 point game as recently as last week and proving his ability to utilize his individual tools within the context of a balanced team.

While there was little denyingh is scholarship caliber tools, Folger is now headed to the NESCAC to play for head coach Jeff Brown on a Middlebury program that has been to six of the last eight NCAA tournaments and won NESCAC championships in 2009 and 2011.

Expect Folger to make an immediate contribution at that level and have a chance to develop into a major contributor as his game continues to evolve in the coming years.
