Fays Headed to Fordham

The Fay brothers ended their recruitment late last week as senior Jared Fay and sophomore Jake Fay both made verbal commitments to play for Fordham University in the Atlantic 10.

Jared heads to the Bronx next year as a redshirt walk-on and then begins the first of his four year scholarship as an academic sophomore, meaning that he and his younger brother will have three years together when Jake arrives in the fall of 2013.

The Fays join their Brimmer & May teammate, Ryan Canty, who committed to Fordham earlier this year.

“We first started talking about it this fall when they came to the gym to see Ryan,” Jared said, “but I didn’t think about it too much during the season because I was looking into some division II stuff.”

The subject regained some momentum in January as Fordham assistant coach David Duke continued to visit the Brimmer & May gym.  When the Rams finally extended the double scholarship offer, it was too good an opportunity for the brothers to pass up.

Ironically, both brothers were out of the country on separate school trips when Fordham extended their double offer.  Jared was in Belize, Jake was in Paris, and so neither was reachable by so phone.  It wasn’t until they returned to the states that they were able to check their phone messages and hear the news.

“My phone was dead all week,” Jared said.  “My dad called me at the airport and it wasn’t until that night that we landed in New Jersey that I heard.”

“I was at the train station and when my dad said it was for me and Jared I said I would commit on the spot,” Jake recalled.

But the Fays wouldn’t commit on the spot, instead choosing to visit Fordham’s Bronx campus together before making their decision.

Late last they finalized their plans and announced their dual commitment.

“We are going to have three years together,” Jared said, “and to visit and commit together was pretty cool.”
