Elshakery Picks NJIT

Winchendon School and Team Griffin forward Belal Elshakery recently announced his commitment to NJIT.

Elshakery, a native of Egypt, came to New England this year for his first and only season. His impact was felt early and often. He was a starter on a 16 win team and stood out at events such as the Zero Gravity Prep Classic and NERR Scholar Roundball Classic.

Elshakery also has several experiences with the Egyptian National Team. He was on the 2019 U16 Team, 2020 U18 Team, and 2022 U18 Team. His contributions were important on Egypt’s Championship team this past summer in the Fiba U18 African Championship. Elshakery averaged 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per Synergy Sports Technology.

On the AAU circuit, he competed for Nike sponsored program Team Griffin out of Oklahoma. Elshakery was part of a squad that won 10 regular season games and earned a spot in the Peach Jam.

“Belal was a double-double machine for us this season,” said Winchendon head coach Kevin Kehoe. “He worked extremely hard to expand his game beyond the three-point arc which enabled him to become a three level scorer. I believe that this advancement is what made him more attractive to college coaches.”

“Belal remains committed to NJIT because of an excellent recruiting effort done by the coaches and the academic/athletic excellence of the school. There is always uncertainty with a new coaching staff being hired. As a result of this, he is going in with his eyes open and will take it one day at a time."

Elshakery becomes the third member of Winchendon’s 2023 class who will be playing next year at a scholarship level school.
