Edo Taking Visits
Canterbury’s seven-foot center Ed Lawrence was one of the big winners (no pun intended) of this summer’s exposure circuit.
He began the month with a strong performance at Hoop Mountain’s Super Week II and then proved to be an emerging prospect at the New England Elite 75 Showcase. A strong performance at the All-Academic Camp only solidified a great two weeks of basketball.
But in reality, Lawrence’s stock started to soar upwards in June when he starred at the Yale Elite Camp.
Since that time, the British native has become a priority for a number of Ivy League programs while also earning several scholarship offers from schools in the Patriot League and MAAC.
Lawrence will take his first official visit this weekend when he travels to Princeton’s campus. He has a second trip scheduled for the following weekend when he’ll return to Yale for an official.
While those are the only two official visits that Lawrence has set to date there is a possibility that he travels to Davidson’s campus in early October according to Canterbury head coach Don Gowan.
Davidson head coach Bob McKillop was at Canterbury’s open gym earlier this week along with coaches from Princeton, Yale, Lafayette, Fairfield, Holy Cross, and Fordham.
It’s easy to see why coaches are so intrigued by Lawrence, not just because of his tremendous size, but because of an obvious rapid learning curve, considering he’s only been playing organized basketball for three years now.
His rate of improvement should only continue into his senior season at Canterbury as the team will be far improved from a year ago and consequently better suited to compliment the big man’s rapidly developing game.
