Duke Offers Murphy
Alex Murphy had a big Memorial Day weekend.
After playing to rave reviews from various national media outlets at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, Murphy and his family stayed in North Carolina an extra night to take an unofficial visit to Duke on Monday morning.
“When the tournament is going on you’re not allowed to visit until you’re officially done playing so we stayed around to visit Duke on Monday,” Murphy said.
During that visit Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski offered Murphy a scholarship.
“It was me, my mom, my dad, and my little brother in Coach Krzyzewski’s office with him, Coach Collins, and Coach Wojo,” Murphy recalled, “just there talking for about an hour and a half.”
“We were sitting there and Coach Krzyzewski said that at Duke they don’t officially say you have a scholarship until your test scores and paperwork are in, but that in 2012 Shabazz Muhammad and I are the guys that he really wants and that I have an offer.”
Following the meeting, Murphy and his family toured the Duke campus with Coach Collins before beginning the long drive back to Rhode Island.
Murphy’s weekend got off to a big start when he dropped 30 points in the New England Playaz opening game of the tournament on Friday night at the Dean Dome on the North Carolina campus.
Murphy’s list now includes Duke, Arizona, Kansas, Texas, Syracuse, Butler, Michigan, Boston College, Wagner, and numerous others according to the rising junior. All but Texas have offered.
