Duke Heading Home
Friday was a big day for Cushing Academy and Mass Rivals senior guard David Duke as he celebrated his 18th birthday and also announced his verbal commitment to play for his hometown school, Providence College, just as they were set to celebrate their annual midnight madness event.
Providence emerged victorious over a final five that also included Virginia Tech, Villanova, Indiana, and Florida.
The decision also culminates a dream scenario for Providence as they reunite Duke, A.J. Reeves, and current freshman Makai Ashton-Langford off a Rivals 2016 team that swept every major Adidas summer championship.
Duke is a big lead guard who has taken his game to new levels within the last year and yet is still just scratching the surface of his potential. In addition to his positional size and length, he's also a high level athlete with instinctive playmaking ability, great use of both hands, a frame that is developing at a rapid rate, and the ability to change the game at both ends of the floor.
Following his four summer championships with the Rivals in July of 2016, he went on to help Cushing Academy capture the NEPSAC AA crown last year as a junior and earn second team All-New England honors. This summer he earned invitations to the NBA Top 100 Camp, Adidas EuroCamp, and Adidas Nations among others.
Below are some of his highlights over the course of the last year:
