Drew Bessette Commits to Vermont
This past weekend, Rice Memorial HS/Rens United EYCL 2024 power forward Drew Bessette made his commitment to the University of Vermont, joining for the 2024-25 year.
He caught the attention of our scouts at Elite 75 in June, making his size known any time he steps on the floor. He is skilled and athletic with good touch around the basket. Gets up for powerful flushes at the rim. Strong, rips down boards, and has the potential to stretch the floor from three.
Bessette has been a part of two championship-winning teams at Rice, unfortunately falling this past season to Champlain Valley Union HS in the finals, the same team they had beaten in the semifinals both of the past two years, en route to taking the 2021 and 2022 VPA D1 State Titles.
He averaged a double-double this past season, tallying 16 points and 11 rebounds per game, to go along with 2.5 assists and a field goal percentage just shy of 60%. He also earned Metro Division Player of the Year honors for this performance.
Bessette was named to two Dream Dozen Outstanding Underclassmen lists, which highlights the top freshman and sophomore recruits in Vermont each season. He currently sits at 4th in the state on our class of 2024 rankings.
As the Rice to UVM pipeline continues, it will be exciting to watch Drew Bessette join former teammate Michel Ndayishimiye to compete for a new kind of championship at the collegiate level.
