DJ Shine Commits to Murray State

Last weekend, Brewster Academy/Upward Stars 3SSB 2024 6’2” point guard DJ Shine announced his commitment to the Murray State Racers. He also received offers from USC-Upstate, Mercer, Queens (NC), Nicholls State, and Georgia Southern.

Shine comes to New England from Georgia, where he attended Augusta Christian School. Interestingly, we have seen a few players go from Augusta Christian to Brewster recently.

Shine found great success as a sophomore, winning an SCISA AAA State Championship and finishing with a 22-5 overall record. They were also undefeated in Region 1 games. He earned All-State Tournament Team recognition for his postseason performance.

Last year, Shine was the star player as a junior in Augusta Christian’s second consecutive SCISA AAAA State Championship season, finishing with a 26-5 overall record and a 7-1 Region 1 record.

He averaged a whopping 23.7 points, along with 4.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, also shooting 53% from the floor and 46% from 3-point range.

Shine was named to the SCISA AAAA All-Region 1 First Team for his performance throughout the year; as well as to the All-State Tournament Team for his postseason play.

His most recent success comes on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit with Upward Stars SE. In a game against Garner Road last April, he scored 34 points, including a buzzer-beater to win the game in overtime.

He finished the last school season with 569 total points, easily surpassing the 1,000-point mark throughout his high school career, and he is only just beginning his senior season with the Brewster Bobcats.

It will be exciting to get a chance to watch him play during his only year in New England, then we get to see him compete at the Division I level in the Missouri Valley Conference for Murray State.
