Cox Chooses Colgate
South Kent School guard Jalen Cox announced his commitment last weekend to Colgate.
Before coming to New England, Cox played for Loyola HS in Los Angeles, CA. He earned minutes on the Varsity as a sophomore and was on a Cubs team which won 16 games in 2019-20.
Cox took a leap the next season, earning a starting spot. He averaged 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.5 steals.
His senior year was impressive. Cox helped lead Loyola to 22 wins while averaging 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 3.1 steals. His standout play earned him 2022 Second Team All-Mission League honors.
He decided to take a post-grad season at South Kent. Cox was a key cog for a Cardinals team which won 32 games and the NEPSAC Class AAA Championship. His noteworthy performance throughout the year earned him ALL-NEPSAC Honorable Mention honors.
“Jalen’s both physically and mentally matured into an impact guy everyday on the job,” said South Kent head coach Raphael Chillious. “He learned how to run a team at the highest level while continuing to use his elite speed to impact the game on both ends.”
“Jalen will be a high impact player at Colgate as he knows how to impact winning whether he is scoring or not.”
Cox becomes the fifth member of South Kent’s 2023 class who is currently committed to play college basketball next season at the scholarship level. He also will be reuniting at Colgate with his Loyola teammate Parker Jones.
