Bowdoin Lands Local Duo

Bowdoin College has picked up a pair of early commitments in Boston College High School’s point guard Bryan Hurley and Lincoln Sudbury’s John Swords. 

Hurley is a scoring lead guard who has put up big numbers throughout the course of his career at B.C.H.S.  Able to put points on the board with both his jumper and his dribble penetration, Hurley also stood out this summer on the AAU circuit with the Middlesex Magic team that made its run this summer in Orlando. 

Swords is a six-foot-eleven big man who has a high potential ceiling.  Although still raw in many areas, Swords’ size gives him a weapon that cannot be taught.  His other assets include a very high release inside the lane, relatively soft touch, and ability to block/alter shots around the rim on the defensive end of the floor. 

Tufts Receives Second Local Pledge

Bowdoin isn’t the only NESCAC school to land two local New England products in the class of 2011 as Tufts recently received a commitment from Vermont native Ben Ferris, who joins C.J. Moss in their incoming recruiting class.

Ferris is a six-foot-two swingman from Essex High School and one of the top players in the Green Mountain State.  He is coming off a very successful AAU season running with Lone Wolf Athletics where he proved that he was capable of making plays against a high level of competition. 

Vassar Comes to New England

Ferris’ AAU teammate Alex Snyder also made a verbal commitment, pledging to Vassar College in New York.  Vassar is another highly selective liberal arts school who plays in the Liberty League. 

Snyder is a six-foot-seven big man who provides a tough interior presence inside the paint.  Strong as he is rugged, he has a dependable offensive arsenal with his back to the basket and is equally effective scoring and rebounding the ball. 

Union Lands Local Product

Union College and head coach Bob Montana picked up a commitment from Newton North guard Avi Adler-Cohen after he was accepted early decision. 

Adler Cohen has run with the Middlesex Magic on the AAU circuit throughout his high school career and program director Michael Crotty Jr. says “we have never had a player who competed with his grit and energy every time he touched the floor.” 

Wesleyan Lands Duo

Wesleyan University landed a commitment from a Canadian big man earlier this month when Chris Tugman pledged to head coach Joe Reilly.  Tugman is a native of Toronto, Canada who attends Upper Canada College. 

A six-foot-seven two-hundred-and-fifteen pound forward, Tugman made his New England debut this summer at the Hoop Mountain Academic All-American Camp where he was selected to the camp’s all-star team after proving himself to be one of the top frontcourt players in attendance. 

Also committing to Wesleyan is local Connecticut native Bryan Galvin.  The Ridgefield lead guard is an attacker with the ball in his hands who is known for his playmaking ability and a terrific fit in Reilly's up-tempo system. 

M.I.T. Earns Commitment

Six-foot-seven forward Reiner Strobos made a recent commitment to M.I.T.  Strobos will be traveling to Cambridge from Canyon High School in Texas where he has starred for the Cougars in recent years.  He earned all-district recognition in just his sophomore season and has followed that up with a series of other awards and recognitions since. 

Strobos missed last summer with injury but was previously a highly sought after division I recruit.  He ran with Texas D-1 Ambassadors on the summer circuit, an AAU program which has produced 86 division I scholarship players since 2006 including 11 within the past year.

Dugas Transfers to Albertus Magnus

Former St. Anselm's scholarship player Zach Dugas is transferring to Albertus Magnus.  The six-foot-two point guard starred at St. Luke's School in New Canaan before graduating in 2008.  He suffered a broken ankle prior to St. Anselm's first game his freshman season and arrives at Albertus with at least two and a half years of eligibility. 

Dugas is a big lead guard with a tight handle and the ability to break his man down at virtually any time.  He is a consistent shot maker from the three-point line and projects as someone who should be able to make an immediate impact upon joining Albertus' team in the second semester.
