Conn. College Saves the Best for Last

Connecticut College head coach Tom Satran has added an immediate impact player to next year’s recruiting class.  St. Thomas More post-graduate Robert Harrigan will be a Camel next year as the St. Joseph’s High School graduate decided on Satran’s program earlier this week.  Harrigan is a southpaw three-point specialist who had a variety of recruitment from scholarship level schools during his year at STM.  But he should be an ideal fit for Satran’s offense at Conn. and has all the talent to eventually blossom into a star in the NESCAC. 

Catholic Gets Another

Catholic University has come up to New England to pick up the fourth member of this year’s recruiting class in Avon Old Farms’ Matt Stone.  Stone graduated from Bacon Academy in Colchester, Connecticut last year before opting to do a post-graduate year.  The 6’8” big man could be a valuable piece to the puzzle for Catholic as he is a capable scorer and vastly underestimated passer with his back to the basket.  Stone also excels with his willingness to be physical and bang inside the paint as well as from the fact that he’s left handed which always gives opposing defenders plenty of problems down low.   

Wilbraham Sharp-Shooter to Wheaton

Wilbraham & Monson sharp-shooter Tyler Price is headed to Wheaton next year to play for head coach Brian Walmsley.  Price is one of the deadliest catch and shoot players in the region and is sure to be able to pay immediate dividends for the Lyons program upon his arrival in Norton.  Price is the fourth member of Wilbraham & Monson’s senior class to commit to playing college basketball next year, joining Kostadin Marshavelski to Northeastern, Brent Abendroth to Bryant, and Steven Jones to Connecticut College. 

Wesleyan Class Continues to Shine

Joe Reilly’s recruiting class at Wesleyan just keeps getting better and better.  The latest piece to the puzzle is Mike Callaghan from Hand High School.  The Madison, Connecticut native became a heavily pursued prospect this year as some of the best academic/athletic schools in the northeast gave chase.  But ultimately, Callaghan opted to join Reilly and be a part of the terrific recruiting class he has brought together to build the Wesleyan program back to prominence. 

Clark Gets a Steal with Esborn

Clark recently received a commitment from Tucker Esborn, another post-graduate from Avon Old Farms.  Esborn, originally from Branford, Connecticut, was one of the best pure shooters left on the board.  The 6’5” forward has a silky smooth stroke along with a very high release point that helps him get his shot off with ease.  He’s also a tremendously tough player with a good feel for the game.  Esborn has the talent and intangibles to contend for a starting spot upon his arrival on campus and eventually be an all-league level player.   

Spence Headed West

Anjuwon Spence, who has led Moses Brown High School to back to back Division III titles in the state of Rhode Island, is headed to Ohio Wesleyan next year where he will also play basketball.  Spence was named the Most Valuable Player of the RIIL Division III tournament this year after scoring 19 points in the championship game. 

AAU Teammates Heading to School Together

Colin Halprin and Travis Nally, who both starred for the Boston Warrios, are heading to Hartwick College together next year to continue their basketball career.  Nally, from Malden High School, is an effective floor general who has good handle and understanding of the game.  Halprin, from Boston College High School, is an inside-out forward who finds ways to score on the interior and is also a consistent mid-range shooter. 

Pair of Commitments from Vermont

Curtis Robinson is headed to River College next year where he will continue his basketball career.  Meanwhile, another senior from Vermont, Marcus Dutkiewicz, is putting off the college decision another year as he’ll do a post-graduate year at nearby Vermont Academy. 

NMH’er to Emory

Northfield Mount Hermon’s Ollie Carleton is headed to Emory University next year where he will continue his basketball career.  The Australian native is the most recent NMH product to commit as head coach John Carroll’s program continues to uphold their tradition of academic and athletic excellence as the class of ’09 is heading to places like UPenn, Cornell, Brown, Lehigh, Louisville, and now Emory. 

Transfer News

Rhode Island native Gary Correia, who starred at Northfield Mount Hermon School before heading to UMass for two years, will transfer to Boston University to play for first year head coach Pat Chambers.  In other transfer news, Andover High School product Sam Hutchins will transfer back towards home as he will be leaving Ithaca and enrolling at Suffolk next year to play for head coach Adam Nelson.
